چکیده

SimTraffic and VISSIM are two microscopic traffic simulation tools that are capable of modeling arterial roads with signalized intersections and roundabouts. This study compares the performance of the two simulation tools in modeling dual lane and triple lane roundabouts under different scenarios such as traffic volume, proportion of left turning movement, and proportion of trucks in the traffic flow. The two simulation tools did not show statistically significant difference in general. However; in the case of high traffic volumes, VISSIM showed higher average delays than those from SimTraffic compared to nearly identical results in the case of low traffic volumes. © 2015 The Authors. Calibration Potential of Common Analytical and Micro-simulation Roundabout Models: A New England Case Study

Recent interest in using modern roundabouts as an effective and safe method for intersection control in the United States stresses the need for accurate modeling tools. The objective of this paper is to assess the calibration potential of common analytical and micro-simulation roundabout models to operations at modern roundabouts. The models considered were aaSIDRA and RODEL (on the analytical ...

Calibration and Comparison of the VISSIM and INTEGRATION Microscopic Traffic Simulation Models

Microscopic traffic simulation software have gained significant popularity and are widely used both in industry and research mainly because of the ability of these tools to reflect the dynamic nature of the transportation system in a stochastic fashion. To better utilize these software, it is necessary to understand the underlying logic and differences between them. A Car-following model is the...

Controller Interface Device Software Documentation

For years, traffic engineers have used traffic simulation software to develop, model, and test signal timing plans. However, before timing plans can be implemented in the field, they must be fine-tuned in an actual traffic controller operating under actual intersection conditions. Testing a signal timing plan in the field can cause minor or even major traffic disruption, creating delay and frus...

Optimizing Traffic Control to Reduce Fuel Consumption and Vehicular Emissions Integrated Approach with VISSIM, CMEM, and VISGAOST

continuous progression along streets do not guarantee the lowest fuel consumption and emissions. Excessive speeding, which may occur on roads with low traffic, may cause increased emissions for several pollutants. The best flow of traffic on arterial streets, in terms of fuel consumption and emissions, is the one with the fewest stops, shortest delays, and moderate speeds maintained throughout ...

Diverging Diamond Interchange Analysis – A Planning Tool

Many traffic simulation software tools, such as Vissim, SimTraffic, Corsim, Synchro, and Dynasmart have emerged over the last decade and are widely used for analyzing capacity, delay, and level of service at intersections, ramps, and along arterial/freeway segments. While these tools have shown great promise, they are expensive and the data collection and input set-up is time consuming and reso...
